Airway ObstructionAirway obstruction occurs when the upper airway (trachea, larynx, or throat) becomes blocked, causing breathing difficulties and other symptoms such as choking, wheezing, and gasping for air. This respiratory problem has a number of possible causes, ranging from allergic reactions and viral or bacterial infections to inhalation of smoke, foreign objects becoming lodged, and trauma or injury.
